Then run the compression test on all 8 cyllinders. Just beacuse the motor "ran good" before you swapped it in your car does not rule out bad rings, the idea is to find out what is wrong, then to fix it!! Your compression test should be within 15 psi for all 8 cyllinders, and should be no lower that 120 - 130 psi.

41,924 Posts. #3 · Jan 13, 2014. The factors that determine what pluggap you can run is dependent on a) the sparkplug being used and b) the voltage being sent to the plug. It really makes no difference whether you have an MSD box or a set of points. The voltage being sent to the sparkplugs depends on the input voltage to the coil primary.

If you have a MSD Blaster Coil to go along with the 6AL (and some good quality plug wires), I would gap them on the high (wide) side of stock (closer to .056) - should be fine with nothing to blow them out.
There isn't a power improvement by having the biggest plug gap , you are just setting yourself up for potential trouble. Gap it at .035 - .040" and the results will impressyou, especially when cold. In a 9.0 :1 compression engine the mixture will be easy to light anyway so you will likely never have to change plugs again.
